'Canes Beat North Carolina A&T 84-77 in WNIT

Miami's Charmaine Clark tries to block the shot from Ta'Wuana "Tweet" Cook of North Carolina A&T during the 'Canes 84-77 victory over the Aggies at the BankUnited Center tonight. The 'Canes advance to play at Providence Sunday at 2pm.

Clark scored 14 points, dished out a game-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds.

Jameson's Big Day at Hurricane Invitational

Tameka Jameson highlighted the Hurricanes outdoor track season opener at the Hurricane Invitational, held last Saturday at Cobb Stadium.

Jameson won the 200m dash in a personal best time of 23.98 seconds, then she also reached another personal best in the 400m dash, winning the event in 53.84 seconds.

'Canes Beat Gators 77-64, Advance to WNIT 3rd Round

Hurricanes sophomore Shenise Johnson led all scorers with 19 points as the Hurricanes defeated the Florida Gators 77-64 in a WNIT second round game yesterday. Johnson also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season, and added eight assists.

The Hurricanes move on to the WNIT third round on Thursday night at 7pm when they host North Carolina A&T at the BankUnited Center.

Nehali Patel was the top collegiate finisher in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:01.84, during yesterday's Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables.

"Canes Advance to 2nd Round of the WNIT

The Hurricanes defeated the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 70-57 in the first round of the WNIT last night at the BankUnited Center. The 'Canes advance to the 2nd round and will face the Florida Gators at home Sunday at 2pm.

Charmaine Clark is shown above scoring two of her 13 points, and she added five rebounds for Miami. Shenise Johnson led the 'Canes with 20 points.

'Canes Host Women's NIT Opener Tonight

The Hurricanes (17-13) will host their first WNIT game since the 2005-06 season when they take on the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (24-6) tonight at 7 pm at the BankUnited Center in the first ever meeting of the two Florida schools.

For seniors Charmaine Clark and Diane Barnes (above), it's another chance to play at home.

The winner moves on to face either Florida or South Florida in the second round.

Meet Lamar Miller

Lamar Miller stiff arms Demarcus Van Dyke during last week's scrimmage at Lockhart Stadium. Miller, a redshirt freshman, gained 63 yards on seven carries and scored two touchdowns, including an impressive 44 yard run up the middle to the end zone.

Durand Scott Named to ACC All-Tournament Team

Hurricanes freshman guard Durand Scott was named to the first team ACC All-Tournament for his performance in leading UM to the semi-final round in Greensboro this past week.

Scott is the first Miami player to earn first team ACC All-Tournament honors. Scott averaged a team high 14.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals in three games.

Four 'Canes Nominated For CWS Legends Team


Hurricanes baseball head coach Jim Morris and former Hurricanes Pat Burrell, Danny Matienzo and Alex Cora have been nominated for potential selection to the College World Series Legends Team, as announced by the NCAA on Thursday.

To commemorate the final Series being played in Omaha’s Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium during the 2010 Men’s College World Series, the NCAA is asking baseball fans to help select the College World Series Legends Team.

The Legends Team will represent those student-athletes who had the best CWS performances throughout the 60 years the event has been played at Rosenblatt Stadium.

The team will consist of 27 members: two former student-athletes per fielding position, four pitchers, two designated hitters, three head coaches and two “utility players”. The utility players will be determined after fan voting has completed, and will represent those student-athletes deserving recognition who may not have been selected by fans, media and coaches at a particular position.

Voting for the CWS Legends Team begins Thursday, March 11, and will run until Noon on Friday, April 16.

Durand Scott Named to ACC All-Rookie Team

Hurricanes freshman guard Durand Scott has been named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Rookie Team as voted on by 53 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Miami's first-ever All-Rookie Team pick, Scott was a UM-best four-time ACC Rookie of the Week selection and the league's leading freshman in assists with a team-high tying 3.5 per game.

Melendres Homer Leads 'Canes Over Gators

Nathan Melendres slugged a three-run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning to lift the Hurricanes past the Florida Gators 9-6 last night, evening the series at one win apiece. Today's rubber game starts at 3pm at Alex Rodriguez Park and will be televised on Sun Sports.

Gators Visit Coral Gables for Three Game Series

The Florida Gators come to Alex Rodriguez Park for a three game series with the #10 ranked Hurricanes starting with game one tonight at 7 pm, game two tomorrow night at 7pm and game three Sunday at 3 pm. Sunday's game will be televised live by Sun Sports.

Miami owns a 122-95-1 advantage all-time over Florida. Last season, the 'Canes and Gators met five times in Gainesville - with UM sweeping an early season three-game series before the Gators won both match-ups in the Gainesville Regional in late May. The last time the two teams met in Coral Gables, the 'Canes won two of three games in 2008.

Antoine Allen Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Hurricanes freshman guard Antoine Allen was named to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Basketball Team yesterday.

Allen is the eighth Hurricane to earn All-ACC Academic Team recognition since 2006, second only to Duke, with nine, during the same period.

Allen was among a group of 12 to earn the recognition this season, which requires a student athlete to earn a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintain a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.

Williams & Johnson Named to All-ACC Team

The Hurricanes' sophomore tandem of Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams have been named to All-ACC Women's Basketball Teams.

Johnson, named to the first team, scored 18.6 points per game and led the `Canes with 7.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.1 steals per game.

Williams, named to the second team, was the ACC's second leading scorer this season with 19.5 points per game and set a new school single season record for three pointers with 83.

Williams Leads 'Canes to Comeback Win Over BC


The Hurricanes overcame a nine point deficit with 1:32 remaining in regulation and pulled away in overtime to defeat Boston College 76-68 yesterday at the BankUnited Center.

Riquna Williams scored five of her 27 points in OT. She also set a new school single season record for three point shots by making five in the game, giving her 83 so far this season.
